Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Our mission and values

The mission of the Barefoot DEI Council is to make Barefoot a more diverse and equitable workplace through representation, education and policy changes. We know that innovative, industry-leading work can only happen when we’re exposed to diverse and original thinking on a regular basis. When we create an environment that is welcoming and inclusive of all people — where everyone feels empowered to be their true selves at work — we are better able to serve our clients and our community.

OUR PROGRESS

What we’ve accomplished so far

In 2019, we began partnering with Queen City Certified, a data-informed employer certification and cohort-based leadership program that helps employers build inclusive and equitable workplaces. Here are some actions we’ve taken since then.

  • Allocated funding for DEI initiatives
  • Created an internal cross-functional DEI team to share responsibility for the work
  • Established baseline benchmarks to identify opportunities for growth
  • Conducted internal assessments, including a pay equity audit and unconscious bias training, to highlight and address areas of existing inequity
  • Implemented surveys and other methodologies to measure and track progress
  • Ensured job postings, recruitment processes and interview questions are inclusive to attract more diverse slates of candidates
  • Updated management training to ensure performance is measured more objectively, rather than being centered on a perspective rooted in privilege
